How to cancel your Monster UK (Job Seeker service) account

Recently, Monster had a security issue resulting in the theft of their users’ data. Considering in all the time I’ve had an account on Monster I’ve yet to receive any useful search results, and taking into account that hResume hypothetically allows for decentralised job searches (blowing up current job seeker website business models :-P ), I decided to cancel my account.

However, I found that the account cancellation option had been removed

I would like to inform you that Monster has removed the Cancel option in the account due to security reasons. And the new process of cancellation is that we have to verify the account details and we will delete the account for you.

. I did manage to get my account cancelled eventually, so to make it easier for anyone else who no longer has a use for the Monster service, here’s how to get your account cancelled:

  1. Send them an email requesting your account be canceled
  2. When they ask for your account details (your full name, account username, home address, phone number, email address, any former email addresses used with your account) The information provided will be used for verification purposes only. Once the information is verified you’re(sic) my Monster account will be deleted., respond with the following:
I would like to point out that due to the recent “security problems”
that likely prompted the removal of the account cancellation problem, I
would likely have access to the information you’re requesting.

So on principle, I am refusing to give you any information other than
that which is contained in this email; my name and my email address.

Account successfully cancelled :-)
