Map API in new location

In an effort to future proof my version of the SL Webmap API against 3rd party grids (as well as open up the possibility of mapping Linden Lab’s various grids), I registered a new domain this afternoon- mapapi.net.

The reference implementation for the client interface is now available at agni.sl.mapapi.net, which as you may notice is on the subdomain agni.sl- reflecting that the map shown represents Linden Lab’s Agni grid.

Long-term plans

Long term plans for the domain would be to use it to present and document map APIs for other worlds- not just Second Life. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m looking for assistance with the Javascript side of things, so if there’s anyone out there who’d like to help with that or the larger MapAPI.net project, please get in touch!

Hey there, I am also interested in a mapapi for OpenSIM in particular. Has there been any progress on this? How can I help?

I’ll be adding OpenSim support via my sw.slr project- Regions are entities within a grid, the re-written webmap API will use the same SQL tables as the sw.slr source (which could contain data from Agni or an OpenSim instance).

I’m currently about 40% to 50% through a complete rewrite of sw.slr, once that’s done I’ll get to the webmap API.

Regarding what you can do to help, poke me in-world or have patience :-P
