
Generally after an article is published with this view of Second Life (it being a dull hole in the ground with nothing to do), pretty much every savvy Resident points out how wrong they are.

I have often wondered if these views didn’t originate from some form of tunnel vision to begin with. :)
Ah yes, thats the problem isn’t it? It is only as exciting as you want it to be, as exciting as you are yourself.
Guess Dilbert just didn’t “get it” and expected that without any effort that the excitement would come to him.
If you follow the links to the original strip, you’ll see the extended joke that the view comes from a lack of desire or an inability to expand one’s view beyond that which they come expect from a lacklustre first impression.
I suppose one of the reasons why I like Second Life so much is that it was the Burning Life 2004 trailer that gave me my first impression of Second Life.
I just finished writing a series of articles on the perception of gamers and virtual worlds vs. the reality, so seeing this made me feel like the rock had gone up the hill only to fall down the other side.
